ITVOIDS is my ongoing creative journey, exploring the artistic threshold between "dream" and "reality", and what manifests in the "void" between those states. It is a simple theory, one that has evolved (and continues to do so) from my time painting at Leake Street, the legal graffiti tunnel beneath Waterloo Station in London. Leake Street, with its clashing mix of controlled and maverick energies, hinted at a strange structure, a defined geometry quietly supporting the artistic melee within it. At its heart was collaboration: the whole of Leake Street as an unconscious shared canvas, and I soon began to notice how that manifested in a specific, repeating way.
This website is itself an extension of the same creative process, SFVFS: Seed / Form / Void / Form / Seed. A never-ending, helix-shaped turning of reality that, surprisingly, surfaces across many scientific and mathematical disciplines. You will see it in the MIND THE MAP project, where I collaborated with 55 other artists to create 110 map paintings, the current manifestation of the process. You will see it further in what followed: the surreal rabbit hole of six months spent working with multiple AI platforms, which produced The H Hierarchy, a mathematical perspective on SFVFS that, in turn, highlighted the intriguing challenges that arise when you work creatively on your own.
As with all threshold creations, there is a liminal quality to what appears, and this website is very much an example of that. In some respects it is a work of art, nothing more. But it is also a window into that liminal space, offering tantalising glimpses of what others might call flow, magic, genius, inspiration, intuition. There are many names and shades for it. For me, it comes from an ongoing appreciation that it arrives, passes through you, and then leaves, and you evolve (or rather revolve) because of it. This is SFVFS in action, and this is my passion. Keep both an open mind, and one foot in the sceptical zone. Friction creates reaction. Reaction creates asymmetry. Asymmetry creates forward motion, the helix, SFVFS..
