MIND THE MAP

MIND THE MAP was built around a deliberately reciprocal form of collaboration. Marc Craig and each participating artist created two maps between them: one begun by Marc and completed by the collaborator, and one begun by the collaborator and completed by Marc. With 55 participating artists, the project produced 110 artworks. That structure mattered because it gave both people the same opportunity to initiate the process. Neither artist was permanently placed in the role of originator or responder; each experienced both positions, and each finished work carried the trace of two different intentions meeting on the same surface.

The project gradually revealed a deeper connection with Leake Street in London, where creativity is constantly being answered, altered, covered, extended and returned to the space by other people. MIND THE MAP became a practical way of recognising that this energy was not confined to graffiti. When two people enter a creative exchange, each affects the conditions in which the other works, and something emerges that belongs fully to neither of them. That two-body encounter producing a third thing, the artwork itself became one of the most important ideas to carry forward into SFVFS, The Wooden Idol and eventually The Turing Chamber.

MIND THE MAP is currently on exhibition at TAPE Community Music & Film in Old Colwyn, North Wales, from 1 September to 30 November 2026. The exhibition brings together the 110 collaborative works across three monthly groups of artists and keeps the project alive as an ongoing exchange rather than presenting it as a closed archive. The wider project can also be explored through the MIND THE MAP online exhibition and the MIND THE MAP shop, where the work continues beyond the physical exhibition and into another form of circulation.
